What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a complementary, yet powerful therapy which utilises Hypnosis. This is a process used to help you to deeply relax and you are then able to allow your subconscious mind to take in messages and information about change.
Hypnosis enables the mind to reach a state of deep relaxation and focussed concentration. Whilst you undergo Hypnosis you will be in a state of mind called Trance. This means your awareness or conscious mind will be calm and quiet and as therapist, I will access your subconscious with positive and affirming suggestions and statements. You will already be accustomed to being in Trance, as you do this many times a day. Trance is normal and completely safe.
Your subconscious mind is constantly taking in information, it utilises this and it operates on an automatic basis. An example of this is, when you are watching TV and you are almost in the programme that you are watching and enjoying. You automatically respond to the messages from whatever you are 'seeing and hearing' and your mind responds with emotions, which you may be able to feel in other areas of your body, such as: excitement, hunger, laughter, sadness and empathy. Something like a screen in the corner of the room, or being on your phone or tablet, can have a profound impact on your bodily senses, as well as influencing your views, feelings; perhaps also choices about purchasing products, after you have seen an advertisement or even a product placement. In effect, this has a powerful influence on your subconscious mind.
The human brain is incredibly powerful and complex in how it operates your body to continue its survival. Humans have the conscious and subconscious levels of awareness and this manages the bodily mechanisms on a continual, second, by second basis. You do not even have to think about how your body is working to maintain your breathing, your heart rate and all the messages which are being sent through your blood stream to all the areas of your body. Your subconscious is always in control and keeps it all running 24/7.
In hypnotherapy you are always in the driving seat and in total control. Occasionally during the session you may fall into a lovely sleep, but your mind is still taking in the powerful suggestions whilst it processes the positive solutions and possibilities, to provide resolution to the issues you are working towards overcoming. However, don’t worry, as major part of hypnosis it to revive the body and mind, so that when the session finishes you will feeling awake and refreshed!
Your subconscious mind is where your perceptions, behaviours, emotions and beliefs operate from. Therefore, Trance is a useful tool to access your awareness and make the needed changes towards resolving unhelpful patterns, habit and thoughts and replacing them with more positive suggestions and emotions. This influences improvement in your mental and physical health. In a nice, relaxed, trance like state, your mind is in a position that it can be ready and receptive for hypnotic suggestions about introducing your solutions, resources and positive outcomes.
