Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

One way to calm your mind is to find opportunity or thoughts which invoke feelings of gratitude today.

When we are experiencing emotions of optimism, as well as gratitude about your past, contentment in the present and hope for the future (visualise better outcome, preferably the best outcome) this can help to shift your mindset and increase your resilience levels.

A good practice is to start and end the day with is, either writing down, or sitting back and thinking about a gratitude list, aims and achievements (no matter how small or big) of the day.

By cultivating an attitude of gratitude, you frame your day with the essence of positivity.

Here's a suggested general format you could follow for your gratitude diary:

1. Date: Start by writing the date at the top of the page.

2. Today I am grateful for: Write down three things that you are grateful for. These could be big things or small things, anything that made you feel happy or appreciative that day.

3. Why I am grateful for them: For each thing you listed, explain why you're grateful. How did it make you feel? What positive impact did it have on your day or life? This step helps you to cultivate a deeper sense of appreciation for the things and people in your life.

4. Positive experiences of the day: List three positive experiences or things that happened during the day, no matter how small they are. These could be moments of joy, laughter, small victories you achieved, or even a kind comment from someone.

5. How I can give back: Think of one way you can give back or pay it forward, whether that's doing a good deed for someone else or simply expressing gratitude towards them. Brainstorming ways you can give back can help you cultivate a spirit of generosity and kindness.

Remember, the goal of a gratitude diary is to focus on the positive things in your life, no matter how small they may seem.

Taking a few minutes to reflect on the good things, even on a tough day, can really help shift your perspective and improve your overall well-being.
